That electric organ is both funky and sufficiently spooky

Very nice composition, also enjoyed the can cracking open during that bridge

Finasty responds:

The can opening sfx was randomly placed, don't know that was good

Dude that bass synth is so dirty I need to take a shower after hearing it. 5 stars

EdKempeper responds:

Hahaha, thanks a lot for this review ! yeah, I use a lot of that kind of bass sounds at the moment !

Dude this kicks ass

MasterHand4444 responds:

Thanks so much! B)

Very nice chords! They occupy the perfect spot between complexity and simplicity. The progression feels dreamy, and there are some very pleasant undertones of nostalgia. The whole song has a blissful, almost optimistic feel to it. The lofi music I listen to tends to have more melancholy feelings, so this song feels refreshing in comparison. Great use of chiptune synths as well.

Great use of lo-fi elements like record crackle and bitcrush filters. The saxophone and guitar solos are a very nice break in the song. They are mixed a little on the louder side but they do not steal attention away from the other parts of your song. I like the percussion a lot, it has some swing and some punch to it without feeling oppressive.

I feel like your chord and your lead synths are a little too bright for what is meant to be a relaxing lo-fi song. Using a low-pass filter or an EQ to cut some of the higher frequencies on your synths could help them blend in better without getting lost in the mix.

Very nice song overall. Tell your dad he is great on guitar!

AndrewCr responds:

Oh wow I don't think I've ever seen this much text in one review lol

Anyway thanks! I usually don't compose this kind of music, so seeing it perform well is surprising, but in a good way.

I tend to make more EDM-y stuff, so I'm used to boosting the highs a bit. Lo-fi does the exact opposite, so I have probably under-done the low pass a bit.
Another thing EDM production has taught me that I mostly want to keep the volume levels consistent, but I guess that doesn't apply to other genres ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Thanks for the review!

WE MAKIN IT OUTTA THE BUTT WITH THIS ONE 🔥🔥🔥🗣️🗣️🗣️

straight cheesin 💯

Nice to meet a fellow Mixcraft user!

This is a really good beat. I personally think the melody and texture are a little too tense for an "overworld" theme but it would be really nice as a battle or miniboss theme, it's a great mix of intrigue, energy and the aforementioned tension. I like the way you use wind instruments in this, kind of gives the song a sophisticated, Eastern-style element and smooths out the song's texture, so to speak. I think that rhythm synth you use is a preset; I forget which one exactly, but you utilize it well enough in the song that it doesn't feel out of place and most people wouldn't realize it. Percussion is nice and subtle without feeling drowned out.

My only critique would be to go easy on the bells. They add some nice percussive elements to this song but I think they play too frequently and loud enough that they clash with the rest of your instruments. You might try treating it like a "cymbal" in a drum set and playing it every couple of bars, as a way of punctuating your song.

Keep on building your portfolio and I'm sure you'll attract people interested in collaborative stuff!

DigiDog responds:

Mixcraft really is awesome. The rhythm synth I think you are talking about that I used is either Orchestra Hit, or 4th Stabs, I love using those where I can. I really appreciate that you took the time to listen and gave a detailed reply about what you like and what could be better, and for the encouragement. I'll tweak the bells and re-upload later on. It's nice to have a second set of ears. As for categorizing the song, I was thinking about putting it out as a Boss/Fight Theme at first as well, but then I wasn't quite sure- but now I guess it was meant to be after all.

This is a very solid mix. The bass is really punchy but it doesn't try to take attention away from anything else in the song. The choir pad is a nice touch. Percussion is nice and clean.

xanxoepico responds:

A sine with a lil distortion really helps making it cut through but not overwhelm everything else, it does NOT sound at all on a bad speaker though LOL

¡Este musica es picante! Pero no me gusta los voces roboticos.

name responds:

No me alcanzaba para comprar voces normales xd

This is nice! LOVE the percussion. Have you used famitracker much? I've always wanted to try chiptune stuff that wasn't just square and triangle VST plugins. I think I tried fiddling around in Famitracker or another NES tracker but got intimidated by the interface and put it down. I might have to give it another try though.

xanxoepico responds:

This was made in famitracker yes! I've used it to make remixes in the past, I definitely reccomend learning to use it more, I myself have trouble with tracker interfaces afyer getting so used to DAWs, but they offer an interesting music making experience

Musician, programmer, game designer, and professional dumbass.
